The Role
As a Data Scientist, you will design, build, and maintain part of the company’s core data infrastructure, with a focus on developing robust databases, implement and maintain ELN and LIMS systems and support the migration of data from legacy systems into modern solutions. You will implement efficient data ingestion pipelines, ensure data quality and consistency, and make information easily accessible to applications, analysts, and researchers across the organization. This role requires strong SQL expertise, understanding of systems scalability, and the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement database schemas, indexes, and queries optimized for performance and scalability.
Develop and maintain ETL processes for ingesting and transforming data from multiple sources into a central database.
Implement and maintain commercially licensed ELN & LIMS systems for scientific data organization and consumption.
Establish and enforce data quality, consistency, and standardization practices across the organization.
Collaborate with software engineers to develop APIs and interactive web-based applications for data capture, processing, management, analysis, and visualization.
Monitor and optimize database performance, implementing security and backup strategies.
Work following the company standard operating procedures and documentation.
Your Profile
We are looking for an innovative and pragmatic candidate who is keen on learning new skills and adapt with the changing requirements of the company and the bioinformatics unit. As such, FairJourney Bio is currently seeking a candidate with the following characteristics:
MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science or related field.
Proven experience designing and managing relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, including understanding of data modelling, normalization, and indexing strategies.
Experience developing ETL workflows using Python or similar programming languages.
Experience working with ELN/LIMS systems.
Excellent planning and organization skills with the ability to efficiently communicate across a multi-disciplinary team, from programmers to wet-lab scientists.
Excellent command of the English language.
Nice to Have
Background understanding of B cell and antibody biology.
Proficiency in working in a Linux environment.
Familiarity with GitHub (version control), Conda/Pip (environment management) and shell scripting.
Background in data security and compliance best practices.
